Planting, Harvesting

Covered in red dirt

with Bumpy the dog close by

I become timeless

and weightless, floating between

yesterday and tomorrow

as I till the earth

and plant food for the future

and the sun will rise

and the winter rains will come,

soon it will be harvest time

and it’s been this way

in all of the earths corners

for everyone, for

all time, planting, harvesting,

countless have sweat before us,

countless will follow

and blood and sweat and teardrops

will fall to the earth

freshly tilled, freshly planted

with life that will sustain us,

it’s all that we need.

We can’t eat plastic and greed

we are of the earth

and the earth provides for us,

but the earth doesn’t need us

the earth is just fine

with weeds and vines growing wild

unkempt, disheveled

we tend the garden so we

can eat all the earth provides

and it’s been this way

since we gathered and hunted

the earth provided

then, just like it does today

just like it will tomorrow
