Hear

We can’t hear the cries

the noise is too loud

it drowns out humanity

we get lost in the crowd

and we’re worried about keeping up

and fitting in,

and going out

and in one of the early chapters

we must have lost sight

of what life was all about

and our paychecks just aren’t enough

and we don’t even bother to dream anymore

but it’s high time we call the rich man’s bluff

and stop lining his pockets

with perpetual war

let’s take a deep breath

and count

one

two

three

and listen to the cries of

humanity

and realize that they’re the same as our own

you can hear yourself if you listen well enough

and if you stop chasing stuff

and stop checking your cell phone

and just because you don’t see a drone

when you look to the sky

humanity sees them

and they cry

and they die

but we just sigh

and we drink

and think that we need

just a little more bread

but most of it’s eaten

by collateral dead

and roses are red

and the sky is blue

let the flag be white

let the fighting be through

listen to your heart

and you’ll hear their cries too

just go with you’re gut

and you’ll know what to do.
