And Sometimes

Sometimes we’re birds

and we fly far away

but sometimes the cats come

we can’t get away

and sometimes we’re lions

we feed on the lambs

but sometimes we’re eaten

like ewes and like rams

and sometimes the dams break

and flood waters rise

we’re waiting and wading

off to our demise

and sometimes we’re blind

’til we open our eyes

and we cry

and we cry

and we cry

and we cry

and sometimes we’re lost

and we’re ready to die

and sometimes in crowds

we feel all alone

but we’re up in the sky

not a bird, but a drone

and the cats become grounded

as they watch us soar

off to tomorrow,

perpetual war.
