Blatant Parables

Where are the modern day prophets

that so many of us need

to offer up blatant parables

about greed

and war

and about keeping the door opened

and inviting in the meth head

the crack addict

and the dope fiend

see, with a little love

they can be weened

with a little bread

they don’t have to wind up dead

or in jail

getting pennies fighting wildfires

making license plates

and fancy lingerie

why make them pay

for societies sins?

When you throw out the baby

with the bathwater,

no one wins

except the businessman who grins

as prison stocks rise

no, these people aren’t expendable

and every time one of them dies

god cries

and the oceans begin to overflow

so think about your white privilege

every time you look down at that line and blow

it’s not what you did

it’s who you know

it’s how much money your family has

and how guilty you look

and there you might be,

high as a kite

but you look like a good kid

so even if you try to fight the police

you’ll live to laugh about it

after your dad’s attorney breaks you free

And here’s another blatant parable

that we all need to know:

American’s can never be happy

as long as our dollar bills

magically turn into death machines

killing countless thousands of the unseen…

we will slowly try to medicate ourselves to death

one way or another…

I remember a blatant parable

that I ignored

back when I was an ignorant,

patriotic,

catholic teenager,

“Whatsoever you do to the least of my people

that you do unto me”

before I sold my soul for the catchy slogan

“Freedom Isn’t Free”

But now I’ve dropped out of college

at the finish

just before the degree

because I couldn’t live with myself

with that bloodied piece of paper

framed on the shelf

and this part isn’t really a parable…

when you pay the taxman

Uncle Sam uses that money

to kill a lot of innocent people

and lock them up in all sorts of cages

worse than, bad as they are,

the cages down in Texas

there are pages and pages about all this

dating back to Plymouth Rock

but in the government schools

Uncle Sam cuts our eyes out

though, if we look real hard

we can still find the truth

hidden right in front of us

and it’s not a contest,

the ICE cages are bad

but so are private prisons,

and so are mountains of innocent civilians

piling up around the world

if you cry for some

cry for all

otherwise, ask yourself

who are those tears of yours

really for?
