When Pigs Cry

The pigs have begun to cry now

at the sight of the lambs

being devoured by the predators

but what about the sheep

what about the cows

what about all those goats

and the horses

the cats

and the dogs

the chickens

the ducks

and the geese

and what about the rabbits

the llama

the alpaca?

What about the beautiful doves

reduced to scattered feathers?

Though they heard the cries

of all the animals on the farm

as they were devoured

by the predator

the pigs cry now for themselves

because the lambs are dead

and right next to the manger

is the pigpen.

With the farmer passed out

with a needle in his arm

there is no one left

to hear the pigs cry.
