Collateral Death

if you kill me

and my family and friends

and neighbors

I won’t care

if you do it

with chemical weapons,

or if you do it with biological weapons,

or if you do it with nuclear weapons,

I won’t care

if you use conventional weapons,

bombs and bullets,

tanks and drones,

or even if you use

sticks and stones,

it won’t matter to me

if you call it collateral damage,

or if you blame my government

as you kill me with sanctions,

it won’t matter to me

if one of the militants

you armed, trained, and funded

kills me in a terror attack,

or if another random terrorist

kills me in an attack

because after a lifetime

of being bombed

they finally cracked.

No, I won’t care how you kill me,

I won’t care at all…

I’ll be dead,

in all likelihood rotting

beneath the rubble

that was once

my community.
