Shadows

The sundial stands still

as its shadow crawls

drunkenly out of existence

but we will not mourn

under moonlight

and star bright

twinkling

shining

celebrate the passing

no rewinding

blinding light

soon to arrive

no tick-rock

dive

into the sunset

sail away

no regret

rise and

fall

can’t stand still

shadows

fall

shadows

all

come and go

sun melts ice

and spring melts snow

the winds of change

forever blow

green turns brown

and black turns grey

all shadows surely

fade away

but all return

for one more day

and one more day

and one more day

calf turns to cow

grass becomes hay

the milk will spoil

can never stay

what’s that you say,

you’re here to stay?

the hour will pass,

you’ll move away

the pain won’t last

she’s day to day

soon, she’ll pass

no need to pray

we’re born,

we die

today lets play

though sun has set

the moon gives light

though even on

a moonless night

the stars they shine

the owl takes flight

take pain

and pleasure

without fright

the lights will dim

we’ll lose our sight

but hair grows long

from high and tight

theres no such thing

as endless night

or endless day

or endless flight

the birds all land

to cats delight

and shadows move

until the night

but they return

at dawn’s first light

birds fly again

no room for fright

light fades to dark

dark fades to light

light fades to dark

stars shine so bright

light fades to dark

stars shine so bright
