On Paper

On paper the last guys

a much nicer man

but that didn’t matter

for Afghanistan

and now a spray-tanned

orange clown leads the way

but somehow we cannot

see past the toupee

hope and pray for the future

forgetting the past

we only see roses

forgetting bomb blasts

while the cast often changes

the show is the same

we may have different Caesers

but Rome is unchanged.
