We Buy The Bullets

Who said it was written

that some folks should die,

who told us that only

their families can cry.

We’re all connected

on this little blue dot.

Whats that? A teenage boy

was just shot.

They might not shoot people

who look like me

but I stand

in solidarity.

I would take a bullet

for them if I could,

I wish more people

that this insanity

has to end

so wounds can heal

and hearts can mend.

Most of these men

have committed no crime,

are they just victims

of the time?

We look the other way

and sigh

as more and more

and still more die.

We pay our taxes

and we wave our flags

we buy the bullets

and the body bags.

Theres blood on our hands

whether we like it or not.

Whats that? someone else

was just shot…
