She brought me
rainbows and butterflies
to dry all those tears
I was drowning in
we got puppy dogs
and ice cream
she warmed my heart
like a sunbeam
and when we played scrabble
she let me win
we quit our jobs
and sold our things
spent six dollars
on coconut rings
then got married
by the ocean
and took our leave
we packed our things
and said goodbye
so we could live
before we die
we had adventures
not even our best friends
could believe
caught a one-way
flight to Europe
drowned our crepes
in maple syrup
then turned sour grapes
into the sweetest wine
in Southern Spain
we tried to dance
we learned to milk
a goat in France
and in Switzerland
we saw the falling
of the Rhine
we got to see her uncle
in Amersfoort
though our two week stay
was still too short
and in Antwerp
we saw a
Pink Floyd cover band
we got too drunk
in Berlin
lucky that our host
still let us in
when we got back
at five am
and we could barely stand
we woke up
with the hair of the dog
then stopped by Kafka’s house
in Prague
before we flew on back to Lisbon
on our way to Sao Miguel
we sought out my roots
in Ireland
wishing it were
a dryer land
but found a rainbow
leading to a wishing well
we flipped a coin
and turned the page
had visions of
a wise old Sage
directing us
back to where we began
then we got back
to Hawaii
to a farm
on Molokai
where we always
sort of wing it
theres no need
for a plan
